How to fit into smaller snowboard boots?

Does anyone know a way to wear smaller boots. I read in transworld that kooley cuts his liners heel cup and puts in like a dr. scholls gel pad. I plan on buying the same exact boots but in a size 12 instead of my 13s i have now. Then ill just put my liners in those. Will this work? Anyone have another good way?
