Should the prom couple match?

I know two people going to prom as friends. He may desire to have a gf/bf relationship with her, but to her, the relationship is platonic, and she made it clear that she would go to prom with him as a friend and does not want him to get the wrong idea. She was wondering if they should go through all that fuss to match colors and make pre-prom plans and all that jazz, even though they're going just as friends?
