Can no one explain today's USA Today Crossword theme 3/24/2010 'Do Not Mutilate'?!?

The theme is 'Do Not Mutilate', and the theme answers are: Shuffles Off, Cut and Dried, and Folds in Half. Seems playing card-related, but I don't know what that has to do with 'do not mutilate'?
