My employer deducted my salary for half a day because I didn't apply for "Half-day leave"?

Is this legal? Since I have lots of annual leave left, shouldn't they just deduct the half day leave from my annual leave balance instead of deducting my salary? I am a Malaysian. Does the Malaysian Labor Law permit such a deduction?
